Accelerated learning / Solo success / Success after school / Steady-rapid improvement Testimonials

When I called AMA to research your school they gave you seven stars out of five! The school met and exceeded all my expectations and my first Solos back home were text book.

Joseph Balabon. Mays Landing, NJ

Dave is both very patient and very thorough in his instruction, and I felt he had a true concern for my understanding of the information. Dave has the student focus on making prescribed controls inputs and
the aircraft follows along - versus reacting to the airplane and always being one step behind it. Dave's friendly approach made the lessons easy to learn and the training flights allowed us to immediately put his techniques to use, get feedback, and continue on. I've now successfully flown 21 flights on my own. I hope to return to Wisconsin for an aerobatics course.

Bill Felton. Apex, NC

(NC) Charles County Windrifters R/C Club Editors note: I also attended this school three years ago. It is all Bill says it is, and more. It makes for a nice vacation as well as expediting a tedious learning process.

I think you should stop calling yourself an instructor and begin calling yourself a teacher, coach, and inspirator. The way you have structured your course, from simple to complex, is educationally sound and it
works. Your teaching and coaching ability is however, the thing that brings it all together. Your explanations before the flights and during the flights eliminated the usual disorientation and lack of control. If anyone had told me that a person who had never flown R/C could solo in just 4 days, I simply would not have believed it - I do now!

Faye Stilley. Wilton, CT

I just wanted to say what an awesome experience I had at the flight school. I can’t believe how much my flying improved in such a short amount of time. Dave, your intuitive perception of where I was at during each step of the training was incredible and allowed us to accelerate when possible and slow down when needed.

Kevin Brice. Milwaukee, WI

My goal in attending the Flight School was to be able to Take off - fly comfortably and land the airplane in one place. The objective was achieved during the five day course. I would highly recommend the Flight School to anyone who wanted to learn to fly in a very short period of time without crashing a number of planes.

William Reynolds. Alpena, MI

Please allow me to reiterate what a fantastic experience your primary course was for my sons and myself. Your approach of treating both flight preparation and the actual flying as though it were full scale is absolutely on target for maximal learning and fun with minimal headaches. I only wish I'd come to the School BEFORE making all the ridiculous mistakes! Hope to see you again in the near future for aerobatic training!

Ken, Nate, and Ben Moore. Las Vegas, NV

I soloed the first day back home without a problem. When I went out to fly the next day there were several members at the field, but none had unpacked their airplanes because of 15-20 mph winds. They were
amazed that I would even attempt to fly. As they watched and waited for me to crash, I just kept remembering what you taught, and finished my flight with a pretty good landing. I couldn't be more pleased with what I go out of the school.

Dan Sprung. Bergen, NY

I honestly didn’t know how you were going to exceed my expectations in this class in comparison to the quantum leap in the basic class over a year ago. You did, it just isn't as immediately obvious until you put it to practice. Then it really hits home when it all works. Your business card claims World Leader in R/C Flight Training--I agree and would add Premier R/C Flight School.

Jim Hahn. Bernumwood, WI

It's official Dave. It all came together to allow me to Solo. What a rush! I even landed the plane on the runway in front of an audience of 3 other club members. The combination of concentrated training, emphasis on fundamentals, and your infinite patience has enabled me to be successful. Thanks.

Archie Paez. Jacksonville, FL

I would once again like to thank you for the instruction. I learned a lot and had a blast. I've got 30 flights in to date with no repairs. Money well spent! I am missing the Wisconsin winds! Flew one day in approx. 20 MPH crosswinds since I've been back. A scant breeze after the course. I will highly recommend your school to any student.

Kevin Klaus. Hardin, IL

I am in total confidence that anyone that goes to your school will receive the professionalism and friendliness of the "DAS" system, helping them to achieve solo status in the shortest possible time with confidence!

William Snow. New England, CT

As I participated in your program over 5 days, I honestly could not think of a single way to make your program better. You tailored a program to my specific needs, recognized the areas I needed work, helped me to confront my issues, and then directed me on to my next R/C adventure. I greatly exceeded what I thought I could possibly learn to do. Soloing the third day, doing barrel rolls, loops and Immalmanns on the fifth day was awesome!

Robert Delaurentis. San Diego, CA

My first approach was set up really well so I landed. I shut the engine down so I could let it sink in that a person really can learn to fly R/C in 5 day's! Your training program works as advertised and I wouldn't change a thing. (I'm actually quite thrilled about your program and very impressed with the amount of thought and work you have put into it!) I will return for your aerobatics course next year!

Bob Thomas. Fowlerville, MI

I really appreciated the opportunity to attend your class. We finished your class on a Friday, and the following Monday I was at the field FLYING!!!!! No help, just preflight, takeoff, fly in comfortable view, and beautiful landings!!!!! You are the best!!!!! One of the old hands at my field came over to say that I was flying beautifully!!!! Last week I took out my MidStar 40 and flew it flawlessly. Your calm demeanor, tremendous knowledge, and proven system, coupled with your great dedication and personality made flying easy and fun! I can't wait to come and see you next year, my skills have already improved exponentially, thanks to you!!!

Don Fletcher. Louisville, KY

I learned more in the first two days than I had in 25 years of training in my two clubs.

Gerald Jefferies. Robertsdale, AL

I owe my RC flying skills to you and your progressive and insightful series of classes. I was very disenchanted with my club instructor's techniques and the progress I was making before I signed up for the
primary flight course. I was very impressed with your approach to learning and learning to solo in only 3 days. The lessons I learned in the primary course stuck with me and I was able to solo back at my home field with no problems.

Chris Leyden. Fort Wayne, IN

I would like to Thank You for devoting your time and talent to training myself as well as many others who would never be able to enjoy the hobby with out your school. May the Lord bless you in all your endeavor's.

Paul Van Allen.  Willingtob, ND

I just got back from my first time out on the Somethin' Extra since the course. I think people were quite surprised. I had multiple people comment "Doc's been practicing" and even the "nice flying airplane"!! Worth it's weight in gold. It is refreshing to meet someone who knows what they are doing and even more importantly how to share their wisdom. Your attitude, patience, and example are to be commended.

Bela Ballo. Gates Mills, OH

I started Dave’s school not much more than a newly soloed pilot. At the end of the week I was able to fly a number of planes and perform the majority of aerobatics: Loops, Immelmanns, half and full Cuban 8’s, reverse Immelmanns and reverse 8’s, four and eight point Hesitation Rolls and more. I received not only the primary diploma but also the aerobatic diploma, usually only given after the second year of the school. Not bad for a guy that thought he couldn’t fly the week before. The other fellows in the class hadn’t really flown before and they both soloed on the third and forth day.

Dave Healy. Medford, OR

I learned more in four days with you than I could have learned by myself in four years. Thanks again for a great experience.

Bob Wertz. Lebanon, PA

Attending Dave's aerobatic class was the best money I have spent since taking up the RC hobby a couple years ago. Words cannot describe Dave's passion and enthusiasm. His teaching methods work, his approach is logical, and he is a master in his field. I was somewhat skeptical as to what could be accomplished in 4 days, but now I am a believer and I look forward returning next year.

Jim Crowe. Fort Payne, Alabama

Your training and the 1st US Flight School was the best thing I could have done. I was not comfortable with any of the basic maneuvers before getting to your school. Thanks to your training, I'm enjoying flying instead of trying to keep up with the plane. The really amazing thing was that it seemed so easy. On my return, all of the instructors were amazed at the progress I had made. I was surprised at how much fun it is when people start accepting you and helping. Even the "General" speaks to me every now and then. Thanks again for making flying a fun hobby.

Sam Stimson. Austin, TX

Big day yesterday. Two guys in the OFC took me up for my wings test and I passed! I'm on my own, thanks to your splendid instruction. My wife thinks the 1st US RC Flight School was the best investment I ever made.

Doug Crowne. St. Agatha, ONT

After your course on my second flight, it was very windy. The best flyers had stopped flying and there I was with my Goldberg. When I brought it back down, under control, only a few feet in from me, you could tell their amazement. I walked away from the field with a great feeling of satisfaction that I am on my way to mastering this art of flying, and will be able to share it with my boys, and I will be able to teach them correctly.

Dan Reardan. Washington, DC

I just flew my first flight since your solo class. I am happy to report everything went smooth. It was windy today with 10-15mph winds. I had help trimming from the guy that owns the field. I was told that he would watch me fly for the first four times out until he felt comfortable with me being out there on my own. After a 5 minute flight, he told me I could come out anytime I want and he didn't need to be there. He said I can tell that you have been flying for quite some time. I want to thank you for your teachings and I hope to make it back for some aerobatics training.

Brett McArthur. Manteno, IL

I flew yesterday, but on take off a line of squalls came through creating turbulence. The plane performed all sorts of gyrations on its own at low altitude. Heard David's voice, neutralize and level wings! IT WORKS!
Completed circuit and arrived safely. Thanks David, your system really works. I learned so much and continue to learn as I reread the manual which reinforces what you taught us.

Thomas Harris. Ajax, ONT

I just wanted to say thank you for your great instruction. I flew three solo flights one week after your school! I am so excited to finally have independence from the buddy box! Thanks to your instruction I am no longer afraid to fly!

Dale Smith. Ann Arbor, MI

Each time I have flown since the class, I have been able to improve because of the proper basic training. When I make a mistake, they have not been catastrophic thanks to now knowing what I did wrong,
correcting properly, and how to perfect my technique.

Jim Hahn. Birnamwood, WI

I learned more after the first two flights at your school than I had in three years at my club.

Neil Reynolds. Peterboroug, ONT

My flying continues to go very well. My landings are crisp or as some say "greased.' The takeoffs are steady and flights themselves steady and organized. All the result of your training at the Primary school. I am considering the Acrobatic school next year to improve my flying experience.

Jim Klass. Lewiston, NY

It has really been fun flying out at the field and to listen to the remarks guys make about my flying. I keep remembering what you said you do to keep it interesting; trying to make it look real. You would not believe how many guys are amazed at how fast I have progressed and are now asking me if I want to fly their airplanes! What a terrific testament to your training!

Bob Kohler. Cedarburg, WI

I had five flights with good landings my first time out after the School. Told myself, small bumps and do not hold in the aileron. Have been flying nice patterns, have been flying mainly right turns due to the wind directions. One fellow yesterday wanted to know how long I have been flying. I told him a week and he was kind of shocked at the ease of my flying. I told him I attended your school and he was impressed. I was a little afraid that I would forget everything, but Dave, it was automatic for me, very little thinking just action (not
reaction). I am so excited to fly, each flight was a little better, smoother and automatic. Pencil me in for some aerobatics.

Michael Pad. Bloomfield, MI

7/18. I am pleased to announce that after flight school I went to the field and flew four solo flights. The club instructors were amazed as to how I could do such landings. I confessed and let them in on our secret of the approach. I showed them the coupling that you use, and whilst a steady wind was across the field the plane flew with little deviation and the turns were smooth. The club "diehards" were still not convinced until later that day when we ended up with about 20 mph winds and I took off and landed with no difficulty. They were
amazed as this would have been deemed a "no-trainer day". I know it would have taken me years of club instruction to have advanced to where I am. Your school is invaluable for struggling pilots-to-be, like myself, whose time is very important and solo flight is the ultimate goal.

7/20. Went out again yesterday and had a great day at the field. I now have 2 other novices using the same system and they improved immediately. They were over correcting the controls and with coupling now are able to see that holding in the stick is not the way to do it.

Tony Graham. Jasper, AL

Dave, you gave 150% and you did get through to us. I have had 9 flights. Winds both days, 15 - 20 mph. Gusty. Last flight, engine quit, landed Ok. Miracle! Maybe we'll be ready for aerobatics next year.

John Wall. "Gust Busters"

I cannot express how much you've helped me gain confidence. That first day when you had me fly in 20 mph winds, I would not have believed it unless I had tried it myself! Your training has helped me to be better prepared to fly successfully on my home field.

Michael Anthony. Naperville, IL

Your teaching methods and style are excellent, as proven by taking a novice, such as myself, and in one week of training, not only getting him to solo several times, but giving him the confidence that he goes off and "knows" that he can do it on his own.

Ralph Mallin. DCRC

The club examiner wanted me to do 3 take-offs and landings to receive my wings.....I did more than 20! Thanks for the great week in Wisconsin and for the skills and confidence to solo! I'm looking forward to the aerobatics class next summer!

Ron Capstack. Harrisonburg, VA

After a great week in Shawano, I flew six solo flights---no problems. It was extremely windy when I was finally able to get our chief flying instructor to the field. However, having high winds all week at your school proved to be advantageous as I achieved a total score of 87 out of a possible 100 and therefore received my wings.

Neil Robertson. Peterborough, ONT

Like you predicted, the first home solos after completing the course were anticlimactic! I had absolutely no apprehension at all and flew the plane like you taught me. Like you said, losing an airplane is unacceptable. The check pilot found it difficult to believe that my total experience was one week and that I soloed in three days, but he said "you don't need my help at all."

Bill Voss. Grand Rapids, MI

I flew all day Friday after the course and greased 9 out of 11 landings. Saturday I flew with an old friend who as amazed at my improvement and overall confidence. I showed him a few things that you taught me and he improved immediately.

Jeff Wallach. Dallas, TX

I had told my mentor here that I was probably going to fly my plane this week. He offered to come out with me but I felt that I had to do it by myself. If he had taken it off and trimmed it out and then handed me the transmitter I would have missed the experience of making a successful maiden flight with an out of trim airplane. I couldn't have done this without the training you provided. I certainly wouldn't have even tried with a crosswind if I had not flown all week at the school in crosswinds.

Joe Thompson. Palm City, FL

I often think about our sessions notwithstanding the dramatic impact on my flying. I now CONTROL what happens by not always reacting. I anticipate what is going to happen and put in the correct inputs and TRUST what will happen. I plan ahead for things that might happen and make adjustments before they occur or when they occur. I read something in your manual every night -- good stuff. I can tell you spent a lot of time writing and refining what you wrote.

Jim Procrass. Beverly Hills, CA

I just wanted to let you know again how much I enjoyed the aerobatics class. You certainly were right in that it met or exceeded every expectation. I was amazed at how well my Ultra sport flew once I returned from the school -- somebody must have switched planes on me while I was gone. I notice steady improvements each time I fly and this is something I just wasn't experiencing prior to your courses. Thanks again Dave!

Daniel Hammon. Bountiful, UT

I just got back from my first contest. I flew the Sportsman Routine in 15-25MPH winds. Without practicing since training with you, I placed second and had a blast. Can't wait to start practicing.

Todd Siegel. Freehold, NJ

My brother and I are both very pleased with our progress throughout the week long session. We have, and will continue to recommend your flight school to those looking for this type of concentrated, personal attention in sharpening their skills.

Gary Smith. Springfield, IN

A couple friends of mine chipped in and bought me an extended weekend with Dave Scott. I have been flying models most of my life since the age of 11. I was somewhat pessimistic about what I would learn from his experience (thought I knew everything lol). After one afternoon my flying had progressed more than it had in years. He explained why things happen the way they do in a way I could understand. I have a lot of "friends" that are very accomplished R/C pilots. None of them have ever taken the time that Dave did to advance my flying skills to a higher level. If anyone thinks his help won’t benefit their flying, they’re wrong! Daves calendar always fills quickly for the upcoming year. Whether beginner or expert, get on his list and I guarantee that you WILL be rewarded with an excellent experience that will help improve your flying skills more in a week than you would in years on your own.

Tim Redelman.  Winnemac, IN

Each time I take one of your courses I think I've learned just about all there is to learn. Then, you show me a whole new level of flying. I continue to be amazed by your expert tutelage.

Ed Smetak. Kingwood,TX

My flying is getting better and better every day. I attribute that directly to the foundation I received from your excellent training.

Ed Petterson. Export, PA

You have provided the basis from which I have been able to move ahead and perfect what you so skillfully and patiently taught me. Thanks to your instruction I'm able to anticipate the maneuvers and what corrections to make to do them better. I'm amazed by how quickly I’ve progressed. You have an amazing way of teaching the basics and also stressing the finer points to achieve perfection without making it a grueling task. In addition to flying, the information you provided on equipment selection, setups, and what works would take years of experimenting to achieve. You debunk the myths.

Jim Hahn. Birnamwood, WI

With hundreds of hours of dual instruction time, I was certain I had the skills to self-learn aerobatics. It was ugly to watch as myself as the "club instructor" started crashing his models while attempting what I believed were minor aerobatics. Matters became worse as my former students wanted me to teach them aerobatics. More models stated hitting the ground. I had just about given up when I saw your ad and booked a session in your aerobatic school. You will be pleased to know that back home I have put your manual and school
knowledge to work. My rudder control is improving with every flight, and "yes", I'm staying ahead of the airplane. Thanks for all your help, and saving my reputation at the field.

Tony Biach. Silver Cliff, WI

I have a very positive impression of your school, through my experience judging some of your students in contests. Your student Todd Siegel's performance is well above average for his experience. Much of that is the training he received from you. I've also reviewed the manuals from your school and was very pleased with the content.

Ron Lockhart. AMA Aerobatics Director & 2005 Advanced Nats Champion

Hard to believe how far I've come since the Course. I thought you were crazy when you said I would be doing a full Aresti with Loops, Cubans, Humpty Bumps, Hammer heads with rolls and Snap Rolls! Well, I found out you weren't.

James Boyden. Northwood, IA

Because of the organization of the material, tailoring the lessons to the pupils needs and your constant input, my learning curve rose steadily and left me with the confidence and complete satisfaction that I could master the aerobatics routine at my home flying field.

Jim Kropelin. Lewiston, NY

It was a great course. I made more progress in the 10 months after attending your sport aerobatics school than I had in the previous 5 years.

Dan Hammon. Bountiful, UT

Now when flyers hear that I have been to aerobatic flight school they always ask if it helped or if it was worthwhile. I cannot be more positive about my experience to other flyers. There was no other way for me to advance my skills so quickly. I am not sure any amount of time would have helped this much. I think differently about flying. As the flight school taught me, I no longer react to what the aircraft is doing. I anticipate what to do and control the plane. The smoothness of my flights is better. My flying is improving and I am having more fun flying aerobatics than ever.

Ken Weddell. Fremont, MI

I'm working the rudder in my maneuvers. Amazing, it works back home just like at Dave's field <grin>. Now I'll practice bringing my maneuvers closer and lower, just like you said I would. Thanks again.

Mike Guncheon. Eagan, MN

I flew my Cap this last Saturday at our local airport and blew their minds. I started out with my vertical lines, then 1/2 reverse cubans, and a cuban 8 at center. Then a avalanche when I returned to show center. The winds were about 15 MPH blowing in at me. I did get a round of applause from the guys who were grounded due to the wind. Well that's my flight report one week after school.

James Boyden. Northwood, IA

I flew yesterday for the first time since the flight school. Everything went perfect and I felt totally relaxed. I look forward to returning to take the next aerobatics course. I'm certainly "over the hump" and I now feel comfortable flying in any attitude. Thanks for the great time.

Lou Sardella. Sparks, MD

What a difference a little flight instruction makes!! Even my landings were better!! It is such a pleasure to fly the various maneuvers with competence. The school decals are going on my planes ASAP.

Marvin Jones. Prescot, AZ

I went up for the first time since taking the class. I am happy to report that I landed the Dirty Birdi for the first time, and I have been trying forever to land this thing. Yesterday, I landed it like it was nobody's business. I will get back to you about taking the advanced class.

Louis Holt. St. Louis, MO

My flying buddies joked, "Why would you pay money for a flight school when you can fly here for free?" However, my first time back at the club field a buddy commented that I was having a good day, and my regular flying buddies wanted to know what happened. I had not been capable of flying like this two weeks earlier. My last flight finished with a knife-edge pass across the field and cheers upon landing.

Ken Weddell. Freemont, MI

The day I got back from the Basic aerobatic class one of the really good Pattern guys asked me to show him what I could do in the way of a sequence. I flew three sequences as best I could in a 15 MPH crosswind. Kind of blew him away. He said....'OK Wallach, WHERE did you learn to fly like that? That is something I almost never see in this Club!'. I told him my heritage with the DAS system, and he just smiled and said......good, we have another Pattern guy in training!

Jeff Wallach. Dallas, TX
