When I called AMA to research your school they gave you seven stars out of five! The school met and exceeded all my expectations and my first Solos back home were textbook. Joseph Balabon. Prior to each flight Dave would explain exactly what we were going to accomplish and why. After each flight Dave critiqued it (always most politely) at which time he explained what happened and why. I am pleased to announce that after flight school I went to the field and flew four solo flights. The club instructors were amazed as to how I could do such landings. I confessed and let them in on our secret of the approach. The club "diehards" were still not convinced until later that day when we ended up with about 20 mph winds and I took off and landed with no difficulty. They were amazed as this would have been deemed a "no-trainer day". I know it would have taken me years of club instruction to have advanced to where I am. 7/20. Went out again yesterday and had a great day at the field. I now have 2 other novices using the same system and they improved immediately. Tony Graham. Jasper, AL Dave believes there are two basic types of flyers. Most club flyers are "Reactors" who watch what the airplane is doing and react to deviations. By definition, they are slightly behind the airplane. For a "Reactor", improvement takes lots of practice and fuel for incremental improvements. I had been flying like this. On the other hand, "Controllers" anticipate the appropriate corrections to prevent the deviation before it occurs. They are thinking ahead of the airplane. An important part of being a "Controller" is identifying which corrections need to be made ahead of time. This is the heart of the DAS (David A. Ron Capstack. Harrisonburg, VA It was extremely windy when I was finally able to get our chief flying instructor to the field. However, having high winds all week at your school proved to be advantageous as I achieved a total score of 87 out of a possible 100 and therefore received my wings. Neil Robertson. Peterborough, ONT I had absolutely no apprehension at all and flew the plane like you taught me. Like you said, losing an airplane is unacceptable. The check pilot found it difficult to believe that my total experience was one week and that I soloed in three days, but he said "you don't need my help at all." Bill Voss. Grand Rapids, MI I flew all day Friday after the course and greased 9 out of 11 landings. Saturday I flew with an old friend who was amazed at my improvement and overall confidence. I now CONTROL what happens by not always reacting. I anticipate what is going to happen and put in the correct inputs for things before they occur or when they occur. Jim Procrass. I flew the Sportsman Routine in 15-25MPH winds. Without practicing since training with you, I placed second and had a blast. I'm now thinking ahead about where I want the plane to be rather than reacting to unintentional consequences. Just as in full size flying - proper instruction (making the airplane do what the PILOT wants it to do as opposed to accepting whatever the plane wants to do and sorta guiding it around) is the only way to learn consistency.
