On June 16, 2006, Gary Graham, age 54, of
Charlotte, NC successfully completed the 1st U.S. R/C Flight School’s 5-day Primary flight training course, becoming the School’s 1100th student trained! Here is his report:
06/25/06
I gave a copy of my "solo diploma" from the flight school to each of the two RC clubs I belong to, and "checkout" flights were not required.
I had about 8 flights this week. All flights were un-eventful and fun. I turned on A/R mixing and removed the leading edge extenders on my Nexstar. The A/R mixing made a big difference. Yes, I kept my fingers glued to the controls and made all of my movements small and correctable. Nothing that would embarrass you occurred. I felt confident with each flight.
Later in the week I even did a few loops, rolls and Immelmann maneuvers with my Nexstar.
One day prior to the others coming to the field, I did go out and stand in the center of the field with my transmitter without any aircraft to visualize my approaches, targets, turn points, etc in my head and with the transmitter controls. That was time well spent.
Everyone was very interested in the flight school and your DAS method. I showed them the two instruction manuals. I suppose that you can expect to see several book orders in the future from our group. I will report my R/C Flight School experience formally at both clubs during our monthly meetings.
Thanks for a great week at school.
